BWA International Humanitarian Action and Development Intensive Course

BWA Annual Gathering | July 5-7, 2024 | Lagos, Nigeria

Course Description

The BWA International Humanitarian Action and Development course is a three-day introductory, multidisciplinary intensive course.

BWA International Humanitarian Action and Development Intensive Course

Students will engage in dialogue and reflection on the world of humanitarian crises, natural disasters and wars, the lives of survivors and those who provide immediate and long-term assistance in complex, challenging and at times, dangerous settings. Participants will consider the evolving role of the Church as a humanitarian actor and gain tools to respond to the myriad of crises caused by the significant increase in natural and man-made disasters in the African context.

Through participating in lectures, group work, case studies, debates and other practical exercises, students will learn about different aspects of humanitarian aid and development, inclusive of disaster response, project management and implementation, international accountability standards, sustainable development goals, environmental and agricultural processes within the African context, and tools to support churches in the times of crisis.

The course is taught by global Baptist humanitarian aid professionals from leading international Baptist aid and development agencies who are committed to walking alongside the Church in times of crises. Together they have decades of field experience, practicing humanitarian action in complex and protracted crises, with several also serving as lecturers in this unique discipline at universities around the world.

Participants will earn university credit and a certificate.
