Evangelism Month
A Global Commitment to Share the Gospel
In October 2021, the BWA executive voted to observe May of each year as Evangelism Month in collaboration with other Christian Communions under the umbrella of the GoDecade Movement. The need for evangelism intensification is urgent considering that of the seven billion people in the world, an estimated three billion are unreached people groups with little to no access to the Gospel.
In addition, even though the BWA grew by 29% in the last decade, there were some regions that experienced decline. In addressing the plenary session on mission at the most recent Baptist World Congress, General Secretary Elijah Brown remarked: “In a world with three billion still unreached with the saving gospel of Christ, we still believe every Baptist a missionary – together in Christ, together in mission.”
Therefore, it will require the whole church to share the whole gospel to the whole world so more people may come to know Christ as Savior. Compelled by the Great Commission, the BWA leads with a passionate commitment to Gospel witness, through this Evangelism Month, in every place and among all people, conscious that it is the vocation of the church to share the good news of Christ. Christopher Wright contended that evangelism is central to the mission of God because it connects us to the centrality of the Gospel which is the good news of what God has done to save the world. The church’s mission includes every member even though there are diverse giftings and callings. Therefore the call for a united and collaborative effort to mobilize and equip every Baptist to witness and lead others into a saving knowledge of Christ is urgent. Baptists are called upon during the month to:
• Share in united prayers for the salvation of souls.
• Participate in an online training course on evangelism.
• Mobilize Baptists to lead at least one person to Christ.
• Engage in community outreach.
• Set the stage for ongoing discipleship.

One-Minute Witness (Evangelism Resource)
The “One – Minute Witness,” tool serves as a strategic catalyst for the witness path of Acts2movement by bridging the gap between theological conviction and daily practice. It is designed to empower Baptists to realize the “Witness Path” – the intentional journey of sharing the Gospel – one of the five pathways of the BWA Acts2movement. While all five pathways are interrelated, placing priority on the witness path with its goal of 450 million shared testimonies by 2033 captures the spirit of Acts 2.
The one–minute witness online video training is developed to further equip Baptists to engage in intentional witnessing. This is an effective tool to engage the Baptist family because it provides concise, accessible, and impactful guidance that can be easily shared across diverse contexts. The format respects busy schedule in that it can be taken on demand while delivering key principles and practical steps for living out Acts 2 values. By leveraging digital platforms, Baptists are united worldwide and encouraged to grow in faith, fellowship and outreach.
The training is provided in five languages – English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Russian – and is designed for pastors, church and youth leaders, convention leaders and all Christians passionate about evangelism. The benefits of the one–minute witness tool include:
- Demystifying Evangelism: By condensing the witness into one–minute format, the tool demonstrates that effective testimony does not require a complex sermon. It teaches Baptists that a witness is simply a personal, authentic reflection of how Christ has impacted lives. This lowers the barrier to entry, moving the congregation from passive observers to participants in the work of evangelism.
- Cultivating Intentionality: The one–minute tool acts as a “spiritual prompt.” By training Baptists to distill their faith into a concise, coherent message, the tool encourages them to be “always ready” (1Peter 3:15).
- Focusing on the Core Message of the Gospel: In the book of Acts, the early church’s witness was characterized by its focus on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. A one–minute constraint forces the witnessto strip away secondary issues and focus on the Kerygma – the essential core of the Gospel.
Ultimately, this approach strengthens our shared witness and advances the movement’s vision of renewal and transformation across the global Baptist community. The training can be completed individually or in small or large group settings. Together, let us commit to intentional witnessing as we impact the world for Christ.
This interactive session will explore the biblical foundation for personal witnessing, offer practical guidance, and introduce a simple one-minute tool to help you share your faith with clarity and confidence. Whether you are new to witnessing or seeking fresh encouragement, this webinar is designed to equip and inspire you for everyday Gospel conversations.
In order to help churches engage with BWA’s evangelism focus, we are pleased to provide to churches around the world the School of Evangelism course that can be taken individually, in small groups, or as a church-wide initiative. Built as a series of video modules from contributors from around the world, we believe it will encourage and equip the global Baptist family in our collective calling to make disciples.
