BWA World Congress Resolution 1995.2

The General Council and 17th World Congress of the Baptist World Alliance, meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 31-August 6, 1995,

REAFFIRMS the priority given by the Alliance to evangelism in the past quinquennium, noting the important challenges presented in:

  • The Seoul Covenant (1999) on world evangelism
  • The Derbyshire Declaration (1992) on establishing new congregations
  • The Cyprus Guidelines (1993) on commitment to take the Gospel to unreached peoples The Madras Document (1995) on Hope for a Needy World;

CALLS UPON all member bodies of the Alliance to evaluate our responses to these initiatives and to report to the Baptist World Alliance what is being achieved in response to these challenges to Gospel obedience.

RECOMMITS itself to the evangelistic goals of the Alliance, namely: Proclaiming Jesus Christ and calling women and men to faith in Him,

Establishing new congregations, in particular challenging every Baptist church to establish at least one new congregation by 2000 A.D.,

Reaching 20% of the world’s population who are unevangelized peoples to whom currently less than 1% of Christian resources are being directed,

BWA World Congress Resolution 1995.2

Empowering national mission endeavors in every country where the Alliance has a presence, recognizing in addition that some countries which have in the past sent missionaries to other nations have themselves become mission fields,

LOOKS with expectation to the leadership it anticipates from its incoming president, Dr. Nilson Fanini, in advancing these emphases.
