BWA Executive Committee Resolution 1920-07.6

The following resolutions were passed on the recommendation of the Education Committee:—

We regard an educational policy as of primary importance for the extension of the Baptist denomination in Europe, and we consider that the establishment or strengthening of Baptist seminaries for the training of pastors and evangelists should be undertaken without delay.

As to Baptist seminaries in Europe, we recommend the acceptance of the following governing principles:—

That they should be established, where possible, in the neighbourhood of universities.

That each country should develop its own preparatory work for its ministerial students.

That some students should be sent for further training to British and American colleges.

That the object of the colleges is to train native preachers to work as pastors and evangelists among their own people; and

That the educational policy of the Baptist World Alliance should be elastic enough to suit the different needs of different countries.

We recommend that the educational work of the Baptist World Alliance shall be carried out on the basis of a policy agreed upon by the Executive of the Alliance itself and in co-operation with the Baptist Board of each country concerned.

The Baptist educational institutions of a country should be administered by the co-operating Boards; that is, the Foreign Board which renders assistance and the Board of the country itself.
