BWA General Council Resolution 1989.6
WHEREAS the New Testament teaches that it is incumbent on every believer to life the Christian life in a consistent manner day-by-day, and
WHEREAS such consistency means applying biblical principles to life’s varied situations, and
WHEREAS life is filled with temptations which would result in conduct harmful to faith, and WHEREAS every Christian, without exception, needs to be reminded to life an exemplary life,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the General Council of the Baptist World Alliance, meeting in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, August 1989, recognize and declare:
That living a consistent Christian life is at the heart of our profession of faith;
That baptism means the beginning of a new and different way of life for the believer;
That needless offense is given to unbelievers by a careless and inconsistent walk;
That for our help, moral and spiritual strength is available to resist those inclinations which contradict or undermine our Christian commitment;
That a daily effort be made through prayer and renewed resolution to close the gap between profession and practice, between belief and behavior, and between the ideal and reality;
That the goal of the believer is both to practice and reflect purity of motive, word, thought and deed and to consistently pattern our life in all things after Jesus himself; and finally,
That all Baptist leaders be called upon to set a proper personal example of integrity, unselfishness and consistency before their families, their peers and those without faith in Christ, encouraging others to do so as well.
