Stand in the Gap

Urgent Need!

With the rapid deceleration of humanitarian aid around the world, millions of lives are at risk.
Beirut Bombing

Together, we must hear the voice of Jesus calling us to stand in solidarity with the suffering. The needs are overwhelming and the situations complex, but we must do everything we can to help.

Many in our Baptist family are imploring the BWA for help, including places like:

  • DR Congo where leaders say hospitals are overwhelmed, thousands are displaced, and churches lack the resources to provide the food, water, and medical care needed to those seeking shelter in their sanctuaries.
  • The Thai-Myanmar border where people have died seeking medical assistance when health clinics in the IDP camps were temporarily suspended because of government stop-work orders.

We are asking for your support in three specific ways:

#1 > Give. BWA’s capacity to respond depends on you and your generosity. We cannot replace all the government aid that has been lost, but we can still make an impact for brothers and sisters in desperate need. For example:

  • $12,000 will purchase solar panels for 5 internally-displaced persons camps along the Thai-Myanmar border to keep the water pumps going

  • $9,000 a month will purchase medicine for residents of a camp in Nupo

But we’ve also had requests for $500,000 – the need is great.

#2 > Pray. Join us in interceding for all of those affected by the current crisis – for those who rely on aid to meet their basic needs for food, water, shelter and healthcare, for humanitarian aid workers who have lost their jobs and organizations that have been shuttered, and for those now trying to stand in the gap to offer assistance in the face of tremendous need.

Stand in the Gap

#3 > Unite: Participate in Stand in the Gap Solidarity Sunday on March 30. We are asking BWA Baptists around the world to use this Sunday (or another dedicated day of worship) to pray for just peace and to give generously to help those who are suffering. Your contributions to the BWA on this day will go directly to providing basic needs for sisters and brothers in desperate circumstances across the globe. We also invite you to share this need in your networks and on social channels to spread the word about these significant needs. Click to access digital resources you can use to invite others to Stand in the Gap.

As the Church, we cannot sit on the sidelines.

We pray that you will join as we seek to follow God’s call to care for the sick, the hungry, the orphan, the displaced, and the persecuted.

Updates from Those on the Ground

“The situation in Goma remains extremely concerning. Ongoing violence has caused massive population displacements, worsening the humanitarian crisis. Baptist hospitals are overwhelmed with the influx of wounded, and several of our brothers and sisters in Christ are receiving medical care, while others have tragically lost their lives…

Our churches have opened their doors to welcome displaced families who are spending the night in our sanctuaries. However, we lack sufficient resources to provide them with adequate assistance, including food, clean water, mattresses, and basic medical care.”
