The Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) will highlight a number of Caribbean authors during the Baptist World Alliance® (BWA) Annual Gathering in Jamaica from July 1-6.

The JBU book display and store showcase Caribbean authors who have been active within the BWA, including General Secretary Neville Callam and Burchell Taylor, a vice president.  Others include Horace Russell, a member of the Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity; Noel Erskine, a member of the Commission on Doctrine and Christian Unity; Devon Dick, a member of the Commission on Baptist Heritage and Identity and the Special Commission on Intra-Baptist Relations and Delroy Reid-Salmon, a member of the Commission on Doctrine and Christian Unity and the Special Commission on Intra-Baptist Relations.

In addition to Russell, a former president of the United Theological College of the West Indies, the writings of other former presidents of the ecumenical institution where many Caribbean Baptists are trained will also be available, including William Watty, Ashley Smith, Lewin Williams and Howard Gregory, who is currently the Anglican Lord Bishop of Jamaica.

Other authors to be highlighted are noted university professors such as Errol Miller, Hopeton Dunn and Barry Chevannes. Others are current or former ecumenical church leaders such as Idris Hamid, Edmund Davis, Kortright Davis and Garnet Roper. Subjects covered include Biblical studies, Caribbean Theology, historical theology, comparative religion, education, slavery and emancipation.

The BWA Annual Gathering, normally held in July, brings together more than 300 denominational leaders, pastors, theologians, seminary presidents and professors from around the world for worship, fellowship, study and for decision meetings.

This is the third meeting hosted by Jamaica in the 108-year history of the BWA, the first in the capital city of Kingston in 1972 and the second in Montego Bay in 1992.
