Help People in Need in Lebanon

Beirut Bombing

For years, Lebanon has served as a place of sanctuary for refugees fleeing violence, including 1.5 million people from war-torn Syria.

Now, Lebanon is facing a mass displacement crisis within its own country following the recent bombings in Southern Lebanon and Beirut. The United Nations estimates that one million men, women, and children have been forced to flee their homes and at least 1,000 people have been killed in the past two weeks alone.

Before the current conflict, the humanitarian needs in Lebanon were staggering with more than half of the country living below the poverty line, many lacking access to healthcare, education, and other basic services, and over one million people facing high levels of food insecurity.

Now, the humanitarian situation is even more dire. Your urgent support is needed to help Baptist World Aid partner with our sisters and brothers on the ground in Lebanon who are serving in this time of great need.

A Call to Prayer

Just a few weeks ago BWA Women Executive Director was serving with dear sisters and brothers in Lebanon – faithful and loving people who long for peace. Today their hospitals are filled with wounded, their schools have become makeshift shelters, and the threat of full-scale war looms. In the last month, more than 1,000 people – men, women and children – have died in the wake of bombings across southern Lebanon. One million have been forced to flee their homes.

Please take a moment to watch this brief video as she shares an update about how the global Baptist family can join in prayer for peace in this region.

Praying Alongside Our Lebanese Partners

Thimar, a BWA Member Partner, has opened the doors of Beirut Baptist School (BBS) to receive more than 150 interally displaced persons. They are working alongside their relief and development arm MERATH to provide 3,000 mattresses and pillows along with upwards of 2,000 meals to churches and community centers across Lebanon. They are also sending staff members to help support and spend time with people who have fled. Please join us in praying for the following requests shared by our Thimar ministry partners.

Help People in Need in Lebanon

Lebanese Baptists are mobilizing supplies like mattresses to offer shelter and care to the many displaced across the country.

Help People in Need in Lebanon
  • Pray for Regional Peace: It can be discouraging after nearly a year of this war to truly believe that peace can actually come, but we serve an impossibly good and sovereign God. We continue to ask God to bring a peaceful end to the violent war everywhere that has been affected by it.
  • Pray for Individual Peace: We pray that the peace of God would guard the hearts of minds of Thimar staff and our local partners. It is unbelievable how the situation continues to get worse almost a year in, and the psychological effects of an expanded war, psychological warfare, and the events of recent weeks in particular are simply exhausting for staff and partners.
  • Pray for the Presence of God: May the peace of God’s presence be made known both to his children and to all who do not yet know him.
  • Pray for the Church: Pray for the protection and steadfastness of the Church in Lebanon to remain beacons of hope and light amid the darkness and evil around them.

We also join in prayer for the leadership of the Convention of the Evangelical Baptist Churches in Lebanon, a BWA Member Partner, as well as the Lebanese Baptist Women’s Union (LBWU). LBWU is led by Siham Daoud who also serves as President of European Baptist Women United and a BWA Women Vice President. We also lift up BWA Vice President Lina Sawan and give thanks for her leadership among the global Baptist family and within her local community at this critical time.
