BWA Executive Committee Resolution 1967-08.2

The remaining resolutions were passed out. Hobbs stated that the Resolutions Committee wished to take note of the Centenary celebration of the beginning of Baptist work in the U.S.S.R. to be observed later in the month. In order to give tangible expression of the love and appreciation of Executive Committee members, a Russian Bible was presented to Sergei Timchenko. It was inscribed:

The Centenary celebration of the beginning of Baptist work in the U.S.S.R. is an event of tremendous significance to Baptist people throughout the world. We rejoice on this occasion to extend Christian greetings and love to our Russian Baptist brethren. Your century of faithful witness to the gospel is a challenge to Baptists everywhere. Your accomplishments of the past are but the promise of a more glorious future in the service of the risen Christ. We join with you in prayer that our Heavenly Father will continue His blessings upon you and us in our fellowship of faith and service for God and to man. We thank our Lord upon every remembrance of you.

August, 1967 Baptist World Alliance William R. Tolbert, Jr.

Timchenko accepted the Bible in behalf of Russian Baptists and expressed his deep gratitude for this recognition of the Centenary observance. He spoke of the Baptist pioneers in Russia who had taken into their hearts this sacred book of the Bible, with love and gratitude desiring to proclaim its message to all people. The Russian Baptists are glad that the Executive Committee members are sharing their joy with them, as well as their task for Jesus Christ.

MOTION was made, seconded, and carried, that the BWA Vice President, Aleksander Kircun of Poland, be designated as the official representative of the Baptist World Alliance at the Centenary celebration of the Baptist Union of the U.S.S.R., and that Paul Stevens, who expects to be in the area at the time, bear greetings from the Executive Committee of the BWA.

MOTION was made, seconded, and carried, that the message inscribed in the Bible presented to the Russian Baptists be formally adopted as a resolution.
