BWA World Congress Resolution 1990.6

Advance, opportunity and achievement have characterized the past quinquennium of the Baptist World Alliance, 1985-1990. It has been a time in which the family of the Alliance has been blessed by gracious and capable leadership even as it has experienced times of sorrow.

The Baptists gathered in the Sixteenth Baptist World Congress in Seoul, Korea, during August 1990 express appreciation to God for the inspiring leadership of G. Noel Vose as president, for the faithful service of Denton Lotz, who succeeded to the post of General Secretary upon the untimely and greatly mourned death of Gerhard Claas, and for members of the Executive and Support Staff of the Alliance who have served sacrificially and often under difficult circumstances during this period. We note the imminent retirement or Archie Goldie and Ralph McIntyre who will continue their Christian service in other ministries.

We have been reminded of the brevity or service in the loss of Gerhard Claas and of Heather Vose, the wife of the president of the Alliance, who had her own gracious and scholarly role within our midst. We thank God for the privilege of serving both with these and other servants who have achieved their heavenly reward during this period. We particularly express to the families of those who have died in this service our Christian compassion over the sorrow of separation and, with them, we look forward to the day when we shall know the promise of resurrection.

We there RESOLVE to serve God so as to bring glory to Christ’s name and the Kingdom of God and we express our appreciation for those who have done so in their lives of service.
