BWA World Congress Resolution 1985.7

With praise to God who provides “every good and perfect gift” (James 1:17), we express deep appreciation for the generous response to the Africa Hunger Response Fund Appeal and for gifts is support of other Baptist World Aid projects, which brought the total of gifts received in the fiscal year 1984/85 to $2,306,015.

We accept the fact that the desperate human needs which prompted such generosity will not disappear quickly and therefore we remind all our people that sacrificial giving needs to continue.

However, recognizing the wide disparity in resources for living between member bodies of the Baptist World Alliance in different parts of the world with humility and sincerity we urge Baptists everywhere to examine their ways of life in the light of the scriptural injunctions to:

feed the hungry clothe the naked house the homeless heal the sick

care for the disadvantaged visit the prisoners

(Matthew 25:31-46)

We also stress the need for us to adopt more simple lifestyles to facilitate sharing and communication throughout the Baptist family.
