BWA General Council Resolution 2003.6

The General Council of the Baptist World Alliance, meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 7-12, 2003:

NOTES with appreciation the willingness of Korean Baptists to host the 2003 meeting of the General Council of the Baptist World Alliance and looks forward to meeting in Seoul in 2004;

OFFERS sincere thanks to the Baptist Convention of Brazil, its president, Nilson do Amaral Fanini and General Secretary, Socrates Oliverie de Souza, for their invitation to meet in Brazil when a change of venue from Seoul, Korea became necessary;

EXPRESSES gratitude to First Baptist Church, Rio de Janeiro, its pastor Fausto de Vasconcelos and to First Baptist Church, Niteroi and its pastor Nilson do Amaral Fanini for their warm hospitality in hosting General Council events in their respective churches;

REJOICES in the contribution to General Council worship made by the choirs of Libertad Baptist Church, Sao Paulo and First Baptist Church, Niteroi:

COMMENDS President Billy Kim, General Secretary Denton Lotz and the BWA Staff for making the General Council meeting a success despite the late venue change.

CALLS upon the churches of the Baptist World Alliance to pray for the countries of Latin America as they struggle with poverty, violence, and political and economic instabilities.
