2026 North America Forum

Since the launch of the Global Baptist Mission Network (GBMN) in 2023, the focus has been to create awareness among its twenty-eight (28) members in relation to the missional work been done in various parts of the world and to explore possibilities for collaboration and networking. The vehicle chosen for this awareness building is a series of online mission forums covering the six regions of the BWA, the most recent being the forum for the region of North America held on January 22, 2026.

The event for North America brought together mission leaders and professionals from diverse backgrounds representing the six regions of the BWA. The primary aim was to create a platform where participants could share experiences, identify emerging trends and consider partnerships for gospel outreach in North America. The forum benefited from informative and insightful presentations from Lelious A. Johnson (Executive Secretary/Treasurer of Foreign Mission Board of National Baptist Convention of America), Amanda Haines (Director of Mission Partnerships and Special Projects for Lott Carey), Albert Reyes – (President and CEO for Bucknor International), and Adrian Gardner (Director of Partnerships, Americas and Asia for Canadian Baptist Ministries).

The speakers highlighted demographic shifts, multi- religious context, urbanization, family life, racial and social justice and the growing presence of immigrant communities and the challenge of immigration status as significant factors shaping mission strategies. The need for contextualized approaches that address both spiritual and practical needs was underscored. Successful examples of inter-church cooperation, joint community projects and resource sharing were shared by the presenters. However, common obstacles such as limited funding, volunteer recruitment, and cross–cultural barriers were highlighted.

The forum facilitated a question-and-answer session where participants discussed potential joint ventures and explored digital platforms for ongoing communication. Emphasis was placed on building trust and long-term relationships among mission-minded organizations. Innovative solutions aired included leveraging technology for virtual training, engaging local leaders, and fostering youth involvement in mission activities.

The GBMN online mission forum concluded with a renewed commitment to collaborative action. It served as a catalyst for fresh ideas and meaningful connections among those passionate about advancing the gospel in North America. By fostering a spirit of partnership and mutual encouragement, the forum laid the groundwork for more effective and sustainable collaborative mission efforts in the years ahead.
