Meet Ahmed

When Ahmed was 17 years old, he lost both of his legs when troops dropped barrel bombs on its own civilians close to villages in Aleppo, Syria. Ahmed was taken to a hospital, but his legs could not be saved.   

Ahmed, his mother, father, and five siblings decided to flee to Turkey and now live as refugees. Ahmed’s brother drives a motorbike to try to earn money by collecting paper boxes and scrap, but the family still finds itself in dire need. Through the support of BWA Baptists, the family is receiving practical help at this challenging time.

When asked if he would consider going back to Syria, Ahmed answered:  

“When I lost my legs, I was only 17. We had a good life back in Aleppo. I wanted to become a lawyer. The war took everything from me. Now we live in a tent. We cannot even afford to live in a flat. My siblings are not going to school. My parents are old. I am disabled. My siblings are not disabled like me, but they are very affected spiritually. If I go back to Syria, can my legs be given back? War does not only destroy but also takes away dreams. I would never have thought that one day I would have to collect paper boxes and scrap from rubbish bins. We are surviving through your help.”
