Getting around Durban:
Getting around Durban is easy. An efficient transport system using buses and/or taxis links different areas and key attractions in and around the city.

Transportation between appointed Congress hotels and the International Convention Centre will be at your own expense. Many of the hotels in the Durban CBD and along the Durban beach promenade are within walking distance of the Convention Centre, should you choose not to walk then we would suggest one of the two following options:

  • The People Mover Bus System (Inner City Bus Transportation) provides convenient and comfortable transport around the city and links the inner city with the beachfront. It operates daily from 5:00 to 22:00 and departs every 15 minutes from the easily identifiable Durban People Mover bus stops, which are conveniently located for both commuters and tourists.

The People Mover does not operate from Umhlanga. Hotels located in this area are serviced by metered taxis or a private shuttle can be reserved for you by the hotels concierge.

  • Metered Taxis are readily available for individuals or groups of different sizes, throughout the day and night. There are plenty of metered taxis in and around the city. They are common, safe and relatively inexpensive. These taxis will be operating in the key event zones, including the airport, beachfront, City Centre and other accommodations and entertainment within Durban. Registered metered taxis are clearly marked with an official Transport Authority decal so that you can be assured of a safe and professional service. The Metered taxi pick up and drop off area in on Bram Fischer Ave. – between Stalwart Simelane Rd and Florence Nzama Ave, on the northern side of the ICC. Or please contact the hotel’s concierge desk and they will assist you.
  • TRANSPORT OPTIONS FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED DELEGATES
Dial a Ride is a safe, accessible service provided through Durban Municipality to assist with transport for wheelchair users and others who find the other transport services inaccessible. Requests for reservations need to be made well in advance – especially if transport is required to/from the airport. A vehicle for physically challenged delegates, operated by the City of Durban will run from the Park and Ride to the ICC. This vehicle will depart from the Park and Ride at 08h00 and depart from the ICC at 17h00 daily.
