{"id":1749,"date":"2016-10-18T12:28:24","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T12:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baptistworld.org\/2016\/10\/haiti-needs-urgent-help\/"},"modified":"2022-02-25T21:31:49","modified_gmt":"2022-02-25T21:31:49","slug":"haiti-needs-urgent-help","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baptistworld.org\/ko\/news\/haiti-needs-urgent-help\/","title":{"rendered":"Haiti needs urgent help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1747\" style=\"float: left; border-width: 0px; margin: 4px;\" title=\"A church in southwestern Haiti destroyed by Hurricane Matthew\" src=\"https:\/\/baptistworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/haiti-hurricane-matthew-5.jpg\" alt=\"A church in southwestern Haiti destroyed by Hurricane Matthew\" width=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/baptistworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/haiti-hurricane-matthew-5.jpg 448w, https:\/\/baptistworld.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/haiti-hurricane-matthew-5-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/>Everton Jackson, Baptist World Alliance regional secretary for the Caribbean, indicated that Haiti needs urgent help after it was slammed by Hurricane Matthew, a category 4 storm that hit the nation with wind speed of 145 miles, or more than 230 kilometers, per hour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Much of the damage occurred in Southwestern Haiti.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jackson, who visited Haiti from October 7-10 at the request of BWA General Secretary Neville Callam, said \u201camong the immediate needs are food, water, mattresses, clothes and building material.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He told the BWA that \u201ctents are needed to provide temporary accommodation for persons living in shelters, particularly those occupying schools and other public facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, \u201cmedication and medical interventions are needed to monitor the health risks being posed in the aftermath of the hurricane, given Haiti\u2019s vulnerability to cholera and other associated diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is urgent need for clean water. Jackson, who is the executive secretary\/treasurer for the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship, noted that the absence of clean water is a matter of emergency.
