BWA World Congress Resolution 1995.1

The General Council and 17th World Congress of the Baptist World Alliance, meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 31-August 6, 1995,

ACKNOWLEDGES that the call to mission demands the local congregations, regional associations and national unions/conventions work together to fulfill their missionary obligation;

REJOICES in the unity in Christ experienced within the Baptist World Alliance;

NOTES that while unity between Christians confirms the proclamation of the Gospel of Reconciliation, enmity and conflict within the body of Christ continue to be a stumbling block to an unbelieving world;

AFFIRMS the initiatives of the Baptist World Alliance in entering into bilateral conversations with other Christian World Communions and stresses the importance of following up these initiatives, recognizing that loyalty to what we perceive to be biblically based doctrine, polity and practices should not prevent us from celebrating the work of the Spirit in other Christian traditions;

RECOGNIZES the since divisions within the whole human family have been the cause of much distress and loss of life, Christians are necessarily called upon to work for harmony within the wider global community;

WELCOMES the emphasis of the United Nations Year of Tolerance, an initiative which needs to be nurtured in a world where all forms of intolerance put human rights at risk.
